Sewing Projects - 2025

I love to sew, but I have very little time for it! However, I am on a mission to sew all of my own clothes, so I have a lot of plans for my future projects. Here they are, my sewing plans for 2025...I wonder how many will be made!

1. Summer Dress
The way to get any sewing done in time for summer is to start it in March at the latest! I have had this pattern for a while, and I also have some fabric for it (forgive the odd picture, but it gives an idea of the fabric's drape, apparently!).
I think it'll look great! I'm planning to make the second version down (long sleeves and V-neck), but heighten the neck slightly. I love the belt on this version.

2. Pajamas

I recently bought this pajama pattern, and it's next on my list of projects! I have a blue-and-white stripey fabric lined up for this one, but I can't decide which version to make...

3. Historical Dress
Yes, yes, I know it's crazy, but wouldn't it be fun to make this dress?! I wouldn't actually wear it anywhere, and it requires eight meters of fabric, but, you know, why not...

4. Blouse, Skirt, and/or Jacket
I bought this pattern in a charity shop a while ago. I've made a version of the skirt already, but I would love to make another. And I want to give the blouse from this pattern a go. I've never made a jacket before, but this pattern might be a good place to start. I think a deep red skirt would look nice, with maybe a cream blouse?
5. Culottes
I've had this pattern for a long time now. I am not a fan of the shorts, the jacket, or the top, but I do like the culottes. They are actually flowy enough to classify as culottes, unlike many other patterns I've found that seem to be just trousers ;). I love their shape.

6. T-shirt

I also own this pattern. I wear t-shirts quite a lot, so I thought it would be good to learn to sew some. These ones look quite plain and quick to sew, but I would definitely want to change the color. I think the shape is quite versatile, and would look good in plain or patterned fabric (maybe stripes?).

So, those are all the sewing projects I have planned, but I think that's quite enough! I normally only manage a few projects a year, anyway, so it would be amazing to get all of these done. Though I'm not so sure about the Victorian-style dress...

What do you think? What's your favourite project out of these six?

  1. Hey Cecilia!! *waves merrily*
Ooh, what a lovely topic for a next-to-first post! I’m so glad to discover another kindred spirit in regards to sewing one’s own closetful! The 1940’s pattern in particular catches my eye, that’s simply lovely…. Pity we’re such oceans apart, I’d love to play Known-You-All-My-Life and borrow it😄
And as for the eight-metre challenge of a dress, I rather used to dream along the same lines! Except mine was blue, as I recall, and lived in a pattern book….

Looking forward to your next post, and seeing where things go from here! (I think I’ve actually read one of your stories on Inkling Corners, looking back, and it IS neat to be able to make interesting little connections like that in one’s mind…)

    1. Hey Emily *waves back from across the ocean*
Do you sew too?!! I love the 1940's one too. I saw it in a magazine but resigned myself to its being unavailable (it was a rather old magazine!). Then I found it in a charity shop at a bargain price (50 pence!). Well, if we weren't so far apart I would lend it to you😄
Ooh, a blue dress like that would be gorgeous! Actually, I've been seeing some lovely pictures of dresses from films of Anne of Green Gables that would be nice to recreate (if I knew how!).
Yes, I had a story on Inkling Corner a few weeks ago...it is fun to link everything up like that!

    2. I do indeed, and isn’t it such a handy skill to have in your toolbox?? And what a delicious turn of events, finding it that way…. I love it when things have stories to go with them ;) 🤗 Aww, that’s sweet of you!

Ohhh my yes, just imagine having Anne’s wardrobe…. *swoons* Wouldn’t it be incredible if Sullivan would add patterns of the original costumes to their line?? The sheer thought of trying to create a pattern like that boggles my mind, but there are people with such cleverness at it that they make it look quite possible…. And as my sister says, you can learn how to do almost anything on YouTube :)

It certainly makes the world feel smaller and cozier!

Dear, dear, this will be a characteristically long comment…. They have trouble coming in any other length with me, I’m afraid. Likely you will find this out firsthand, but please don’t feel obligated to match them for length unless you are inclined to do so!!

    3. I know, even just thinking about making those patterns makes my brain hurt, but it would be amazing to be able to do that (especially for the blouse patterns - Edwardian blouses are the best). I just can't imagine how you could look at something and work out how to make a pattern for it! But, as you say, YouTube is very helpful for everything.

I love long comments - they make my day! Keep them coming!

  2. Ahh, what lovely patterns! I enjoy hand sewing, but I still haven't really mastered using the sewing machine...I may want to do that at some point. I haven't mastered patterns, either. Quite frankly, they frighten me. :P The Victorian style dress looks lovely (of course) but I think my favorite is, like Emi, the blouse/skirt/jacket combo.

A family friend recently shared a wonderful website with me (freevintagecrochet.com) with crochet patterns from vintage magazines, so I've started a hat pattern from that - I've wanted a vintage winter hat for a long time and never found anything reasonably-priced, so I'm really excited for that! :)

    1. I like hand sewing, too - it's very relaxing. I was very lucky when it came to using patterns, because I have an amazing grandmother who showed me how to use them and generally demystified them for me! The good thing about the pattern for the skirt from that 1940's one is that it only has two pieces, so it's really simple.

Oh, that website sounds amazing! I must take a look. There's a similar one for knitting and I periodically look at it and plan what I would make from it if I had time. There's just something about vintage patterns...

Thank you for commenting - it made my day :)

    2. Oh, your grandmother truly is amazing ;D There really is something about vintage patterns...the clothing itself is lovely, of course, and just the knowledge that you're sewing the same thing that women half a century ago (or more!) have is so cool.

Oh, you're very welcome! I'm quite enjoying your blog :D

    3. Oh good! I'm glad you are enjoying it! I have spent a very long time reading through your blog archives...I particularly enjoyed your review of Sense and Sensibility :)

    4. Oh, that makes me so happy to hear <3 (And which version of S&S is your favorite? :))

    5. Alas, I have only seen the 1995 S&S! But for me, it is pretty much perfect; the music is just stunning, too! I want to give some others a try, though...I believe there's a BBC miniseries (there probably is - they've done a miniseries of practically everything and they're usually spot on). Have you seen any other versions?

    6. There is indeed a BBC miniseries...it's my favorite version, in fact! (Though the very first scene is better skipped.) There are a couple older BBC versions from the '70s and '80s as well, but they're not amazing.

I enjoy the '95 version too; in fact, I was just watching portions of it on Mardi Gras and remembering how good it was. My biggest complaint with it is that I find Kate Winslet's Marianne VERY unlikable, which pulls the story as a whole down for me a bit. I love the soundtrack too! There are only a couple soundtracks I enjoy listening to on their own, and that's one of them.

    7. Ah, I must look into those. One of the perks of not having a TV, just DVDs, is that it's easy to pick up DVDs cheaply in charity shops, so I'll look out for that miniseries.

In fact, I quite like Kate Winslet's Marianne, but, like you say in your review, her dynamic with Elinor isn't great, especially the "Elinor, where is your heart" bit (have I watched this too many times?!). I really want to learn "My Father's Favourite" from the soundtrack on the piano...the whole of that soundtrack is just lovely.
