Ash Wednesday

It's Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. I'm not planning a long post today, but just a couple of pieces of Lenten music!

This is a beautiful piece of music! It roughly translates to "Jesus, Saviour of the world, help Your family, whom by Your precious Blood You have redeemed."

The other piece(s) of music I wanted to include is from Mozart's Requiem. While this isn't strictly Lenten, the Requiem was written to be sung at funerals, so it fits in with the general feel of Lent. This piece is taken from the setting of the "Dies Irae", an ancient text about the Last Judgement: you can find a good translation of it here (if you're interested; maybe it's only me who likes to read medieval poetry and its translation!).

It was originally going to be the Lacrimosa, but the only good recording I could find had the movement beforehand, too, so that's in here, too.
I hope you enjoy both of them! Let me know which is your favourite!

Oh, and I'm planning to publish a review of the 2009 Emma soon and a couple of other articles I've been forgetting to finish, so stay tuned!

  1. Ah, I love the Lent at Ephesus album! (I like to listen to a lot of the Benedictines of Mary's albums - Advent at Ephesus might be my favorite.)

And of course Mozart's Requiem is simply majestic.

Have a blessed Lenten season, Cecilia!

    1. Yes, it's a beautiful album, isn't it? I like their Easter album, too, especially the Sicut Cervus by Palestrina.

Mozart's Requiem is just sublime. I had the amazing experience of singing it with my choir a year or so ago.

      Have a blessed Lent too!
