Inklings // February 2025

I linked up to this for the first time today, and I can't wait!! (The rules for linking up are here.)

Last month's prompt (I'm late!) is a scene at the piano. I decided to include a scene from one of my favourite films, Mary Poppins. I considered doing a period drama, but decided against it when I remembered this scene!

The part with the piano comes just at the end, and it's my favourite bit; only a brief part of it (I think it's enough to count), but one of the funniest!

In case you didn't know, the magic governess, Mary Poppins, has come to be nanny to the Banks family. In this scene, Mrs. Banks is telling Mr. Banks how much better everything's been going since she joined the household. Next door to the Banks is a retired admiral, who fires off his cannon twice a day; the Banks are so used to it that just before it goes off, Mrs. Banks cries "Posts!" and they all rush to catch things that will be knocked over, the gun goes off, they right the ensuing chaos, and life continues. This is when the piano comes in.

Apologies for the bad quality: I couldn't find a better one! (Here's a link to the scene on YouTube.)

What did you think of this scene? Do you like Mary Poppins?

  1. "But George, you don't PLAY."

"Madam, that is entirely beside the point!"

    This bit is priceless😂😂

  2. Oh, this is such a great choice; I love Mary Poppins! (I'm a little disappointed in myself that I didn't even think of this scene, actually.) I also love that the thumbnail for the Youtube video is just Mr. Banks facepalming. xD ACK this movie is so good. <3
