Deadlines completed!

If you ever read this post, you'd know that a few weeks ago I set myself the deadline of finishing The Lord of the Rings in time for Easter, and also trying to finish sewing a skirt as well. I've finished both of them!

I'm planning to write about The Lord of the Rings after Easter, when hopefully I'll have the time for a longer post. However, I have time to write a shorter post about the skirt today, round spring cleaning and choir practice and baking for Easter.

First, here it is!

It seems to be a rather blurry photo... I had visions of a lovely photo in the sun against the grass, with the skirt lightly blowing in the breeze. I forgot that a) the sun hasn't really appeared today b) the garden's on a slope with other houses behind it c) the skirt had to be arranged so the garden furniture and tools were hidden behind it. Anyway, the sun came out after fifteen minutes, and I hid the wheelbarrow and deckchair. I had to stand at the bottom of the slope and zoom right in, which was not very helpful.

Anyway, I've finished it! I must say, it was quite an easy skirt to sew. There were only three pattern pieces, and the only fiddly bit was sewing in the zip at the side. Because the fabric isn't the best quality, it's quite loosely woven. This made it difficult to sew on the machine, until I worked out that I needed to use a smaller stitch...

I would definitely recommend the pattern! It was easy to sew and the instructions were clear. The same pattern has a lovely blouse, which I might make when I have time, though time to sew may well be limited, with a house move coming up. Added to which, I'm trying to sew a medieval dress, which is proving more complicated than I expected.

The pattern I used

I'm so glad to have finished it! Sewing something from this pattern was one of my sewing projects for this year, so I'm so pleased to have ticked that box as well.

I probably won't have time to post again until next week, so have a blessed Triduum and Easter Sunday!

  1. Oh, it looks so pretty!! Good job on finishing it in time. (Heh, I think the photo came out quite clear! (And also, your grass is coming in so nicely. Ours is still rather brown and sparse.)) I did finally finish my Easter project too, so hurray :D

Since it's nearly midnight there...happy Easter!

    1. Thank you! Yes, the grass seems strangely healthy, considering that it's had children running all over it throughout the winter! Yay! I'm glad you finished it ;D

      Happy Easter to you too!

  2. Ohhhhh, that is SO PRETTY Celie, I love it!! The pink roses against the background are getting me, so sunshiney and beautiful. And you got it done perfectly on time, too, cheers!

(Oh, the challenges of shooting around things, I know😂 Fun to read about, though, even if it's a wee tad fiddly to do ;)

    1. Thank you! I must say, it was nice not to have any last-minute sewing to do on Holy Saturday...

Yes, I know! I don't think I will ever be a professional photographer...

  3. The skirt is so pretty! I love the pattern. :)

I can't wait to read your thoughts on LOTR - Tolkien is one of my favorite authors.

    Happy Easter!

    1. Thank you! I will definitely be making more skirts in the same pattern.

I'm looking forward to writing about LOTR: Tolkien is the best. I must read more of his; I've only read LOTR and the Hobbit so far.

      Happy Easter to you too!
